Book Review: Instant XenMobile MDM

Recently I was asked by the Packt Publishing team to review one of their books by author Aamir Lakhani "Instant XenMobile MDM".

About the Author:
Aamir Lakhani is a leading Cyber Security and Cyber Counterintelligence architect. He is responsible for providing IT security solutions to major commercial and federal enterprise organizations. Aamir Lakhani is also the author of the book "Web Penetration Testing with Kali Linux". A brief introduction to his work can be found here: http://www.packtpub.com/authors/profiles/aamir-lakhani.

XenMobile MDM:
XenMobile is the Moble Device Management solution provided by Citirx. Better known as Zenprise before the acquisition of the company by Almighty Citrix. Citrix though has done a commendable job of revamping the solution and taking it to the next level by integrating the MDM solution with its NetScaler, AppController, StoreFront, ShareFile and other offerings. Allowing corporates to seemlessly manage mobile devices in the BYOD era. More info on XenMobile can be found here: http://www.citrix.com/products/xenmobile/overview.html

The Book:
The book deals with the deployment, configuration and management of XenMobile MDM. The installation section is nicely written as its very detailed listing out each and every installation prerequisite with crisp screenshots. I have worked both on Zenprise and XenMobile MDM and to be specific Certificate enrollment for the XenMobile Server sometimes can be a hectic job. But, Aaamir does a great job in clearly explaining the details here.
The author describes also the process of provisioning, creating and deploying basic policies. A great deal of info is also provided on Android Samsung SAFE device management and their management using XenMobile. Further Aamir explains he top 6 features XenMobile carries and give a brief description of the Secure Mobile Gateway and its functioning. The reporting features have also been nicely described. The book has been clearly targeted for technical professionals working or researching in the MDM arena.

Conclusion:
All in all, the book carries a lot of information regarding XenMobile and can be considered as a Pocket Bible and first of its kind for Admins handling the XenMobile servers. But having said that, the next hurdle for Aamir would be to bring up his next book dealing with all the latest features and functionalities that Citrix has integrated in its XenMobile App Solutions Bundle as the solution seems really complex but has proven its mettle in the market.
