Installing Zenprise MDM Suite-The Prerequisites
Its been long time we have not published anything due to an enormous time being spent on developing our full fledged site for IT Enthusiasts- VastVerti .
In this post we'll guide you with the installation of Zenprise Mobile Device Management Software. I would also like to congratulate Zenprise on being positioned in the Leaders Quadrant in the Magic Quadrant of Gartner, Inc.'s 2012 for Mobile Device Management Software

Zenprise MobileManager is comprised of the following separate server components:
• Zenprise Device Manager (ZDM) is one server (or virtual instance) that is typically located in the DMZ. This component provides advanced mobile device management and security for iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows CE, and Windows Mo-bile devices
• Zenprise Service Manager (ZSM) is one server (or virtual instance) that must be located behind the firewall. This compo-nent provides advanced monitoring & management of BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s), BlackBerry devices, Exchange, and all ActiveSync devices
• Zenprise Service Manager Lite (ZSMLite) is one server (or virtual instance) that must be located behind the firewall. ZSMLite communicates with ZDM to display BlackBerry and all ActiveSync devices in a single ZDM web console with de-vice management functions
In this post we'll work on installing the ZDM server on a Windows 2008 R2 server with a Dual Core processor and 4GB RAM though the application specific requirements are as follows:
Prerequisites:
Hardware
ZDM server
• Single Quad Core CPU, 6 GB RAM, 20 GB HD space available to Zenprise
• Dual Quad Core CPU’s and 8 GB RAM are recommended for large (5000+ device) environments
• Virtual (VMWare or Hyper-V) environments are fully supported
• ZDM and ZSM can share a single server if desired. This requires routing ports for ZDM internally
SQL requirements
• SQL 2005 with SP2, SQL 2008, or SQL 2008 R2 (64 bit and separate server recommended)
• ZDM average environment database size will be 20 GB. Large environments can be up to 40 GB
• ZSM average environment database size will be 50-60 GB. Large environments can be up to 80 GB
• ZSMLite average environment database size will be 35-45 GB. Large environments can be up to 60 GB
ZDM Service Account
• Installation account must be a local admin of the server
• Installation account does not need SQL rights directly, but you will need the credentials of an account with rights to create databases in SQL during the ZDM installation
ZDM Requirements
• Windows Server (Standard or Enterprise) 2003 64 bit, 2008 64 bit, or 2008 R2 64 bit
• Intended ZDM server does not need to be a member of the domain
• Do not install IIS. Uninstall IIS if it exists on this server
• Create an external DNS record for the ZDM server (ex. Mobile.yourcompany.com)
• An Apple APNS certificate will be required during the install, obtained using the Zenprise APNS Certificate Setup Guide
• Java SE 6 Update 25 (Do not install Java SE 6 Update 26 or Java SE 7)
• Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) files Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files 6 (To install JCE files, first install Java SE 6 Update 25. Then copy local_policy.jar and US_export_policy.jar from the JCE zip file downloaded, and over-write the two files of the same name located in /Java/jdk1.6.0_x/jre/lib/security)
Ports :
These ports need to be opened for proper communication between the device and the server
