R.I.P. EMC- Welcome EAC- Exchange Administration Center

Exchange Administration Center

After installing Exchange 2013 the first thing I did was to search my all so friendly EMC- Exchange Management Console. But I couldn't find one. As I have installed Exchange on Server 2012 felt I'm missing it somewhere. But again thanks to a great article one of my Exchange Gurus came to know EMC's no more and you have a new web-based console for management named EAC Exchange Administration Center.

So here we delve into EAC and see what it has to offer:

The EAC is accessible Internally as well as Externally, again bringing the ease of accessing your servers ON THE GO.

One of the advantages of having the web-based EAC is that you can partition access from the Internet/Intranet from within the ECP IIS virtual directory to allow or disallow management features. This allows you to permit or deny access to users trying to access the EAC from the Internet outside of your organizational environment, while still allowing access to an end-user’s Outlook Web App Options.

Firstly, you need to find the ECP Virtual Directory to access EAC. Open EMS and type the following command.

Get-ECPVirtualDirectory | Format-List InternalURL,ExternalURL

The result should be as shown below

So you have the link now go ahead and paste the URL in IE or your browser and try to login.

NOTE: This might not be the same in your case but while trying to login using the Domain/username or just the username I was given an Invalid ID or password Error. But was able to login using username@domain.com format.

Here's a detailed description for the EAC Console

It looks a bit different but seems to be jam packed with features.
