Google Apps-An Introduction to Settings

The last post we discussed with the consoles for GApps. In this Post we'll take on the Settings Console to manage users and the GApps Services.

Settings: The most interesting and powerful section where you can set permissions on the services available to organizational users.
Calendar Settings:

It gets rather interesting where you can have a customized URL rather than having a Google pointed URL for eg: calendar.teamxchange.in

What needs to done is to add a CNAME as done earlier

Chat:

Contacts:
A tool not as powerful as Exchange but should work fine for SMB’s. The Address book settings for GApps.

Drive and Docs:
Block docs from being accessed outside the organization or Allow usage of Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office users to collaborate with Google Drive.
Offline Docs- Allows users to access their data even when offline
Drive App Install Settings

Email:
This console has some very interesting settings like:
Offline Gmail: Allows users to access gmail even when offline
App Search:  A search booster user mailboxes
Sync Support:  Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook plugin & Google Apps Connector for BES Servers
Outbound Relays: Allows users to send mail through an external SMTP when configuring a "from" address hosted outside your email domains
POP and IMAP access Management
Email Retention: Automatically delete email messages for all users(specific time intervals can be set when activated)
Mail Delegation: Let users delegate access to their mailbox to others in the domain.
Filters & Distribution Lists

Mobile Device Management:
Not available for iOS devices yet. A very concrete setting applet is available for manageing Android devices in this console.

Whatever said and done I am loving my experience when working with Google Docs mainly, the real time communication scenarios but it wont be easy for every user to adapt a spreadsheet thats not Excel.

Lastly, its a power packed tool with great potential as a Stepping Stone toward Complete Cloud Environment
