Gmail vs Outlook.com



Microsoft has built a competitor to Gmail called Outlook.com. Learn about some of the similarities and differences between the two products.

 

Similarities  

 

1. Both are free.
If you have a Hotmail or Windows Live account you can upgrade your account to Outlook. 
Otherwise you can Sign up through Outlook.com .
Gmail offers a 10Gbemail storage limit and a 25Mb attachment limit. Outlook.com gives you unlimited email storage and your inbox capacity will automatically increase as you need more space.It gives you  100Mb attachment limit (300Mb if the attachment is linked to the Microsoft SkyDrive.



2.  File storage
          
Outlook offers you 7Gb of SkyDrive space whereas Google offers 5Gb of Drive space. These file   storage features both allow you to share items with other users via email.

3.Documents and photos


You can do anything online with documents for business purposes.You can save your photos also

4.Gmail interface

It uses the Metro interface they have built for Windows 8 

By clicking the “New” button in the toolbar you can compose new mail.
 




 The recipient is entered in the left side of the window.















 
5. Mobile acces






Both offer mobile access for Windows ,Android, iOS and BADA platform.

 

 

Differences




1. Social connector

Outlook.com has come with  social connector which allows you to link your account to Facebook, Twitter, and to chat with friends.

 



2. Preview pane

Outlook.com offers a preview pane which Gmail doesn’t. It makes easy to navigate through emails

4. IMAP not available in Outlook.com

Outlook.com cannot be accessed via IMAP, which might also impact a user’s to connect to their email via a mobile device . If your smartphone has a decent web browser you’ll probably be okay with this one.
